THE TSUKANOV ART COLLECTION

The conceptual work "Onward to the Victory of Kommunism!" was acquired at the Sothebys auction in London.  This work was produced by the artists in the Soviet period and presented to the american artist Douglas Davies during his visit to Moscow in 1974.  Developing their new movement SotsArt Komar & Melamid used the typical slogans of communist's mass propaganda as art objects in some ways similar to Western PopArt's appropriation of advertising imagery. A comparable work from this series "Our Goal - Communism!" (1972) is in the Norton Dodge collection (Zimmerli Art Museum, Rutgers University, USA).
